Sitzprobe for the musical Pray the Gay Away® was held on October, 16, 2019. Sitzprobe is German for “seated rehearsal” and is usually the first rehearsal where singers and vocalists get together. Because the Pray the Gay Away play is a new theatrical show, all the orchestrations are also new and take quite a bit of time to work out with the musicians.
“The orchestrations for PTGA are a little bit different of an approach for me”, says musical theater composer Conrad Askland. “Normally I score for double winds, but for PTGA I decided to use strings in place of one of the woodwinds and I also decided to not include bass guitar. This will give me more freedom to improvise around the score during performances.”
The orchestrations for the 2019 musical theater run of PTGA will be:
- Key 1/Conductor
- Reed 1 (flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax)
